Accreditation List
Degree Recognised by FEIAP
The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) recognizes engineering degree programs that meet specific educational standards and accreditation criteria. These recognized degrees are typically from institutions whose programs have been accredited by member organizations of FEIAP (or via relevant organizations within their economies which are WA signatories), following guidelines consistent with 2nd Stage international standards of FEIAP Engineering Education Guidelines or equivalent such as the Washington Accord.
FEIAP’s recognition aims to facilitate mutual recognition of engineering qualifications among member organizations, ensuring that engineers have a common level of competency. To have a degree recognized by FEIAP, the following general criteria are considered:
- Program Accreditation: The engineering degree program should be accredited program by program by the relevant accreditation body.
- Curriculum Standards: The curriculum must include essential subjects like mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and specific technical, non-technical and engineering skills as stipulated in the FEIAP Engineering Education Guidelines
- Quality Assurance: Institutions must demonstrate effective quality assurance processes, including regular reviews of the curriculum, faculty qualifications, and educational facilities.
- Outcomes-Based Education (OBE): FEIAP encourages an outcomes-based approach, focusing on the knowledge, skills, and abilities that students should possess upon graduation.
Programs that meet these standards can be recognized under FEIAP, making it easier for graduates to seek professional registration or employment across different countries within the Asia-Pacific region.
Stage 1 National Development refers to economies that are still in the process of developing their engineering education systems to align with international standards. Economies at this stage have achieved a level of standards sufficient for national development. These economies receive support from FEIAP to strengthen their educational frameworks, accreditation processes, and quality assurance mechanisms. The focus of this stage is on building national capacity in engineering education and accreditation, with the goal of meeting the criteria for substantial equivalence recognition in the near future.
Economies currently in Stage 1 include:
- The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) (WA Provisional Member)
Stage 2 Substantial Equivalence Economies refers to the economies recognized by FEIAP for having engineering education systems that are substantially equivalent to those of other member economies in FEIAP. This recognition facilitates the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications and enhances mobility for graduate engineers across borders.
As of now, the economies recognized under Stage 2 include:
- China Association of Science and Technology (CAST) via CEEAA (WA)
- Chinese Institute of Engineers, Chinese Taipei (CIE) via IEET (WA)
- Engineers Australia (EA) (WA)
- Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) (WA)
- Korean Professional Engineers Association (KPEA) via ABEEK (WA)
- Myanmar Engineering Council (MEngC) (WA Provisional Member)
- Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) (WA)
- Philippine Technological Council (PTC) (WA)
- The College of Engineers of Peru (CIP) via ICACIT (WA)
- The Institution of Engineers, India (IEI) via NBA (WA)
- The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) via BPERB (WA)
- The Institution of Engineers, Indonesia (PII) via IABEE (WA)
- The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) via EAC (WA)
